On Monday afternoon, I went for a run in the rain. These are words you will have never heard me say before, and frankly words which I didn't think I'd ever be writing. The thought process normally goes like this:
"I really ought to go for a run. / Oh no, it's raining, I can't. / Let's order a pizza."
Whereas on this occasion, it was more like:
"I'm going for a run. / Oh, it's raining. / Oh well, it'll cool me down."
I'm not quite sure how I got to this point, but all I know is that I felt mighty superior as I watched everyone else hating the drizzle. The pasty teenager in a giant parka, the business couple on their way home from work under an enormous umbrella, the potheads under Kingston Bridge.
"Look at me!", I bellowed, internally. "I laugh in the face of rain; nay, I embrace its cooling powers upon my athletic physique as I plough through puddles undeterred and stride confidently towards 10k success and an adonis-like figure."
Of course at this point, I was overtaken by some fitness freak in one of those full body "running armour" things that looks like a wetsuit, only with pockets for water bottles and various James Bond-style running gadgetry. I watched him sprint past, not a hint of tiredness, no aching muscles, not even slightly out of breath.
"Knob", I thought.
